Chapter 10: Ambush (Part Two)

The patrolling knights were slowly following the path while digesting the breakfast. Despite them being in the forest they were not too worried about their own safety, after all, a  mid-level mage was secretly protecting them. The thick-headed cavalry team did not consider the chances of being a bait. A few people talked about the young village girl who they met during the patrol last month, from white skin, a slightly thick but powerful waist, a scream of sorrow, and a wonderful struggle, especially the twist of the waist. Moving and scream getting louder and louder.

..................

Death always came at the most unexpected time. Deep from the depths of the trees,  arrows suddenly flew out like locust, 20 arrows from the three machine crossbow all aimed at the three cavalries walking in front of the patrol.

The skill of the patrol cavalry was quite good, reacting quickly to the incoming arrow, and incredibly blocking off half. But the three people in front of the patrol still fell, struck by the arrows.

The three cavalrymen who were behind them responded quickly and rushed into the woods,  not giving the mercenaries a second chance to fire their arrows.

The mercenaries dropped their bows and arrows and pulled out the sword to start a melee fight.

The martial skills of the patrol knights were good, especially the knight wielding a great sword. He manipulated the horses nimbly around the trees and rushed to the middle of the three mercenaries who had just pulled out the sword. The greatsword swung down, sweeping a mercenary, and then like lightning stabbed toward the second mercenary. The mercenary raised his sword, and a steel shield on his left arm to protect his heart. The sword tip and the steel shield drew a spark making a shrill sound on impact. The curved shield forced the tip of the sword to slide to the side. The mercenary was swept up by a huge force and the sound of fracture sounded from his arm from the clash.

Immediately, the knight snorted, and his great sword swung down again into the mercenary, and with no steel armour to protect the lower half of the body, the sword strike made a bone-deep wound on the thigh.

The third mercenary turned around and hid behind the trees. The Great Sword Knight swept his eyes around and found the armour in that mercenary was much more gorgeous. He immediately ignored the two mercenaries who were wounded and urged the horse to chase.

That mercenary was Lawrence. At this moment, his life was almost over, and he was full of sweat. He agilely dashed around the trees like a rogue, but the knights behind could always catch up with him.

The other two patrol cavalry did not have the luck or the skill like him. A horse tried to chase a mercenary, but suddenly two halberds came at him from behind the tree. He was shocked in his heart. He hurriedly clipped the horse belly and the horse jumped three metres up escaping the strike. However, another halberd came silently from behind, and easily cut open the leather armour, almost cutting him in two halves.

Keith gently jumped down from the tree, had no time to check the body, and quickly rushed toward the sound of the fight.

Another patrol cavalry was surrounded by five mercenaries led by Emmet. As the tiger couldn't stand the group of wolves, and soon he was sneaked into a thigh by a mercenary, and then he was cut down by a sword.

The Great Sword Knight followed Lawrence again and again in circles. However, the two screams from far away made him change his mind as dialled the horse's head, ready to escape.

His horse suddenly jumped up, as an arrow came and got stuck in the buttocks of the horse, dismounting the knight.

He was in danger, and after a roll, he stood up and found that Keith was standing in front of him holding the blood-stained ax.

From the rear, Emmet appeared holding a sword. Franco, who was armed with a hand-held crossbow, and also Lawrence who had just struggled to escape.

The knight’s palms were sweating and he cursed: “Where is that damn mage?”

........................................................

The mage himself was in a bad position. After discovering that someone had used the Mage's Eye,  he had applied invisibility and quickly and carefully approached the battlefield.

In the distance the fighting had begun to sound and fortunately, he found a knight with a strong armour in the woods, 30 meters away. Looking at the knight who was dressed like a commanding officer, the mage secretly thanked his luck.

A lightning strike hit the middle of the target. Watching the knight fall over with a small electric spark, the mage swaggered toward the fallen knight. He was very convinced of the power of his spells, not to mention the second lightning spell he had prepared in reserve.

The knight struggled to stand up, and the second lightning crossed the air and hit him again. But this time the knight did not fall down but turned around, however, there was only a skull under the helmet, and the deep eye sockets with pale flames occasionally flashing was, staring at the mage

The mage was aghast seeing this as the skeleton seemed to be smiling at him.

The mage felt his mouth dry and his palms sweating. The instinct formed after years of fighting enabled him to quickly activate an amulet. A white light column rose from his foot and disappeared. But the magic force field that was invisible to the naked eye had already covered the mage. The Rank 2  spell "Magic Armor" was economical and practical, easy to learn, and is definitely a must for magicians to travel and defend themselves.

He was already an intermediate mage, but he still used the amulet to activate this Rank 2 spell. The main purpose was that he wanted to seize the time to chant the next spell.

...................................

Timing on the battlefield was the second life of the mage. The same mana, the same spell, the one that finished first will take the lead.

The time for different people to chant spells was different, after all, accents, language, habits, and even the mood of the day was likely to affect the performance of the spell. As recognized in the mainland, the person with the stutter was unlikely to become the master the magic.

But the spell was not always better the faster it was, and not when the faster it was, the higher the probability of failure and the advanced the spell was, the longer it was. The more important syllables in many spells could not be shortened, it was a big problem.

Which syllables could be shortened was often the biggest secret of a mage, and even the closest disciples were not necessarily taught.

..............................

The mage's spell was quickly completed, and a summoning circle appeared on the ground, and a magical creature began to slowly form as the light shone.

At this time, Rogge had quietly gone around the mage, came from behind and swung the ax at the mage.

Expecting the mage to be separated from his body, Rogge felt that the ax seemed to have suddenly cut a large piece of butter and involuntarily turned to one side. As a rookie who touched the ax for a few days, he would not control the ax that was swung down.

The mage was startled, and his side flashed. The ax had drawn a long wound on his shoulder. Rogge flew up again and raised his leg to sweep the mage. Sure enough, he felt like he had kicked a cotton pile. However, the strong foot still kicked the mage.

............................

"Howl!"

A roar rang in the back of Rogge. Rogge looked back and saw a black tiger rushing.

"Really!"

Rogge screamed unluckily. After successfully getting closer to the mage, he could not have any good results.

He did not expect that his pet to be a rare combat type, and Rogge had only a cloth shirt for armour in his body. It did not look like it could block the black tiger's teeth.

The ax suddenly came down from the air and cut at the black tiger, it turned out that the Love had dragged the bulky armour and finally rushed over.

The black tiger quickly shifted its target and rushed toward the Love.

Seeing this, Rogge wiped a cold sweat, smirked and turned to the mage who climbed up from the ground and slashed the ax. Although there was the protection of magic armour, how was that mage an opponent of Rogge? Soon he was constantly seeing red. After several spells were interrupted, the mage bit his teeth and hurled colourful gems toward the opponent. This time in the middle of the fight for Rogge's life, Rogge's offence slowed down and began to hesitate, to pick up some to have a good look.

The mage seeing the chance, galloped away, wanting to escape, but unexpectedly a branch suddenly rose and tripped his heel. The wounds on the body were aching together, and the mage almost fainted.

Love was in a fight with the black tiger. The armour was too heavy, and the axe was not easy. For a skeleton with limited strength, the knight' equipment was not very suitable.

In line with the level of the magician, this black tiger was quite harmful. It was a pity that its teeth could not damage Rogge's carefully crafted steel armour.

Compared with a few months ago, the bones in the present Love were well-proportioned, the colour was soft and clean, and the joints between the bones were dense and smooth, which were of top quality.

In the battle with the black tiger so far, Love at the cost of his exposed leg bones cut the black tiger with the ax and smashed half of the tail. The black tiger left a few teeth marks on the thigh bone of Love, and several cracks.

Feeling the vague sensation anxiety that came from the direction of Love, Rogge looked back to check the situation there.

It was at this distracted moment, and a faint sound of spell came from behind him. Rogge immediately turned back and saw a scroll burning in the hands of the grinning mage. The bowl big fireball was already in front of him.

Rogge had no choice but to block his face with an ax and lay down on the ground.
